Gathered Narratives saw the work of husband Soler (b.1960), wife Mona (b.1962), and their three children Luis (b.1985), Carina, (b.1988), and Isabel (b.1990) together in a single exhibition for the first time. Presented in the old Silverlens space in Pasong Tamo, the exhibition showcased the current bodies of work of each member of the Santos family at the time.

Another way to see Gathered Narratives is the relationship between one artist’s practice to the other: for one, are the layers in Isabel’s mixed media collages a predilection she inherited from her father? Do the wrinkles and rumples in Mona’s paintings encourage a way of looking that is up close and intimate as in the exposed skulls in Luis’ photorealistic paintings? Is the presence of grids in Carina’s work an extension of the parallel lines in Luis’ sole diptych and photographic pieces as well as the geometric inclinations in Soler and Mona’s respective paintings?
